How to Reach in Jammu and Kashmir

By Air: Srinagar Airport in Kashmir is 15 km away, which is well connected to major Indian cities. After arriving at the airport, tourists can hire taxis to reach various cities and towns in Kashmir.

By Road: The state of Kashmir is well connected with a network of state and private buses, which have many cities and towns nearby. National Highway 1-A connects Srinagar to Jammu. 

Also, the popular Jawahar tunnel connecting Jammu to the Valley of Kashmir also falls on the way. J & K State Road Transport Corporation (JKSRTC), luxury and private deluxe bus goes far. These buses are extremely comfortable and inexpensive.

By Train: Jammu Tawi Railway Station, located at a distance of about 330 km, is the nearest railway station in Kashmir. New Delhi-Jammu Tawi Rajdhani Express, Jammu Mail and Jammu Tawi Express are some of the major trains running from Delhi. Outside the railway station, one can take a private taxi or take a state or private bus to reach various places in Kashmir.

Vaishno Devi is a religious trekking destination where pilgrims walk for about 13 km to reach small caves, one of the 108 Shaktipeeths. Vaishno Devi, also known as Mata Rani, is an expression of Goddess Durga according to Hindu mythology. Pilgrims show their dedication and enthusiasm by singing slogans and songs in praise of mother Vaishnavi on the roadside. Overall this is a great place if you are inclined towards both Hinduism and nature.

Located on the banks of the ancient Dal Lake, Shalimar Bagh is the largest Mughal Garden in the Kashmir Valley and one of the most famous tourist attractions near Srinagar. It is located 15 km from Srinagar. This magnificent garden, built on an area of 31 acres, was built by Emperor Jahangir in 1619 for his beloved wife Nur Jahan. 

This beautiful masterpiece is also known as ‘House of Love’, which was originally called ‘Farah Baksh’. The design of the garden is based on the Persian ‘Char Bagh’. The main attraction of Shalimar Bagh is ‘Chinese Khanas’. It was illuminated with oil lamps at night.

There are poplar trees and streams of rivers around this temple, which are seen to add beauty to the place. This temple reflects the faith of the Hindu community of Kashmir.

22. Ningli Nallah

A small river or stream called Ningali Nallah is located about 8 kilometers from Gulmarg. This stream is formed by the ice melting from the Afarwat peak and the water of the Alpathar lake and flows into the Jhelum River, shining like a white worf. 

This place is one of the captivating tourist spots along the valley. Another surprising thing is that these districts are located since the Neolithic period. This has been proved by the inscriptions found here.

23. Shivkhori

Shiva Khori is also known as the home of the gods. This place is considered to be among the other major cave pilgrimages in Jammu as a Shivalinga itself originated here. The Shivling located here is 150 meters high. This place is a major pilgrimage for the devotees of Shiva, the God of destruction, the Shaiva devotees. 

Another major attraction of this place is Swayambhu Lingam. On this lingam, milky liquid keeps falling on the year, which falls from the rocks located here. On the walls of this place you will also see the figure of Gods and Goddesses.

24. Manesar Lake

This lake is considered sacred for the Mansarovar Yatra, which is also considered to be a reflection of purity and practice. This lake extends over several miles. A temple is also built here which is dedicated to Sheshnag, the Hindu God. 

It is believed that if newly married couples come to this temple and pray then their marital life is happy. On coming here, one can also take a holy bath in this lake and visit the Durga Temple, Prithvi Shiva Ch Narasimha Temple.
