How to Reach in Chopta

By Air: The nearest airport to Chopta Valley is the Jolly Grant Airport which is located at a distance of about 226 km from Chopta. Flying to Dehradun is one of the best options to reach Chopta Valley by flight. After reaching the airport, you will reach Chopta valley with the help of a taxi or bus.

By Road: The best way to travel to Chopta Valley is by road. To reach Chopta, you can take a bus from the major cities of Uttarakhand or book a taxi/cab. Apart from this, you can also travel to Chopta Valley by traveling on your private vehicle through NH58.

By Train: If you have chosen the rail route to travel to Chopta Valley, then for your information, let us know that the nearest railway station of Chopta is Rishikesh railway station which is located about 100 kilometers from Chopta. Built with amazing architecture, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, which is said to be more than 1000 years old. Along with Lord Shiva, you can see the idols of Goddess Parvati and other deities here.

2.Chandrashila Trek

Chopta is also known for its adventures apart from the natural and religious. Chandranath mountain, located here, is known for its exciting trekking route. Travellers from all over the country come here to experience this adventure. Chandrashila is located at an altitude of 13,000 feet above sea level.

5. Ukhimath

Ukhimath temple is one of the major temples in Rudraprayag district, it is also one of the main religious places in this district. Many temples of Lord Shiva, Parvati, Goddess Usha and Banasura are located at this place. There is a temple of Lord Kedarnath here.The Shivling of this place is made of snow, due to which this temple remains in the center of attraction of devotees. 

The temple is situated at an altitude of 1,317 meters above sea level. The idol of Lord Kedarnath is kept in this temple during the winter time. The beauty of the snow-capped mountain range of the Himalayas can be easily seen from this temple.

6. Madmaheshwar Temple

Madmaheshwar Temple is one of the beautiful tourist and religious places of Chopta which is located near Mansoona village of Chopta. This temple is surrounded by dense forests and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The height of the Madmaheshwar temple is 3,497 meters above sea level. Lord Shiva’s stomach is worshiped in this temple. It is believed that this temple was constructed by the Pandavas. 

According to the belief, the Pandavas were guilty of killing their brother Kauravo during the war and went to seek him to appologize to Lord Shiva. Seeing the Pandavas, Lord Shiva transformed himself into a Nandi bull and hid in the Himalayan mountains of Garhwal. Later Lord Shiva’s body emerged from five different places. It is believed that Lord Shiva’s stomach came out in this temple. Since then, Lord Shiva’s stomach was worshiped at this place. Even today a large number of devotees come here to praise Lord Shiva.

7. Kalimath
