Manali, also known for its adventurous activities, has many adventure activities organized from time to time such as mountaineering, horse riding biking, river rafting, bathing, clubbing and paragliding which will be enjoyed by the tourists.

Best Time To Visit in Manali

Due to the pleasant climate and picturesque surroundings of Manali, it is considered an ideal place for those wanting to experience mountaineering, trekking and skiing. Well, you can visit Manali at any time of the year but not all the tourist places here can be visited throughout the year, so you can make your planning according to the place you want to visit.

December to March: Snowfall starts in Kullu Manali after 15 December. If you want to enjoy it, then you can come here from December to March. During this time, you can go skiing here, see the Hidimba temple, snow taking on Bhrigu Lake and Beas Kund.

April to June: Being a hill station, a large number of tourists come here during these three months. As these months heat up in other parts of India and school holidays also occur. That’s why people come to visit Manali with family. Rohtang pass opens in the second week of May which you can see. Apart from this, one can see the grandeur of Solang Valley, rafting in Beas River, paragliding and trekking on highways like Hampta and Tibba Pass.

July to November: During the monsoon season, the Kullu valley gets cloudy and the Beas river is at its peak. The entire valley looked wrapped under black and white clouds floating in the sky. There is strong lightning in the sky. It also rains a lot in these months. If you want to see the greenery of Kullu Manali, then these months can come. However, tourists are less in these months so it is considered off season in Manali.

How to Reach in Manali

This hill station is a major tourist destination of India. Therefore, facilities to reach Delhi by train, bus or plane are available here.

By Road:Most tourists visiting Kullu and Manali holiday prefer to travel by road, especially from Delhi. You can hire Volvo buses or cabs which run daily from New Delhi. The distance from Delhi here is 522 km. The region has good connectivity with the regular bus services of Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation to Ambala, Chandigarh, Shimla, Dalhousie and other districts.

By Train:Being a hilly region, there is no railway station in Manali. There are train services from Delhi to Jogindernagar and Pathankot. The distance from Pathankot to Kullu is about 285 km and from Jogindernagar is about 126 km. There are railway stations in Shimla and Kalka for the convenience of tourists. After reaching here you can go to Kullu Manali.

By Air: You can reach this major hill station of Himachal by air. The nearest airport is Bhuntar, which is about 50 km from Manali. Kingfisher Airlines and Air India have flight services from Delhi, Chandigarh, Shimla and Leh to Bhuntar. Kullu is located at a distance of 10 km from this airport.

1. Paragliding

In Solang valley, located 20 km from Manali, you can see the high hills flying in the air. For a short flight of paragliding, you have to spend 1000 rupees, then for high flight up to 3000 rupees. 

2. Trekking

3. River Rafting

Beas River in Kullu Manali is one of the best places in India for river rafting. Here, river rafting starts from Pirdi and ends at Jhuri. Here you can go for rafting in the months of March to July in the year. The rafting route from Pirdi includes Bajaura, Sarabai, Bhuntar and Shamshi, Mohal, Raisol and Katrain. The most preferred route is from Pirdi to Bajaura due to the thrills and the longest rapids. This route is 14 km and takes about 1.5 hours to complete. The route from Pirdi to Bhuntar is also very pleasant for rafting.

4. Zorbing

This is a new hill and adventure game for tourists. Jorbing is a modern sport that can be enjoyed by tourists visiting Manali. In this game a person slips into a jar which is a large transparent ball. A ball is then rolled with a slope. Maximum weight of 120 kg can be accommodated at a time in Jarv. People sitting inside Jarv are tightly held to hold Jarv so that they do not get hurt when rolling down a slope of 100 m height. More adventurous tourists can also enjoy sitting on the jarv from 150 meters high slope.

5. Mountain Biking

If you are a fan of bike riding .. then you can take a trip to Rohtang Pass by renting a bike in Manali… this pass is open from June to October… after the pass is closed You can also take a trip up to Gulaba … which is located at a distance of 50 km from Manali.

Mountain biking is one of the popular sports in Manali! This destination is an ideal mountain biking destination and one can enjoy a sport from here to Lahaul, Spiti, Rohtang Pass, and Ladakh. If we talk about the best time for mountain biking here, June to September is the time for this. 

It is considered to be the best because at this time there is no snow on the roads here. If you want to enjoy mountain biking, then you can rent it from any shop nearby, these are available here at the rate of Rs 100 per hour or Rs 500 per day. Local operators such as Himalaya Extreme Centers organize tours according to the needs of the travelers. Concerning the health of the tourists who come here, the organizers also recommend to bring with them first aid kit and additional air pumps and tubes.

7. Skiing

Skiing can be enjoyed in the distant Solang Valley. There are two slopes in this valley which are considered perfect for novice skiers. Keeping in mind the convenience of tourists, two lifts have also been built here. Tourists can enjoy skiing in Marhi, Gulaba, Dundi, Rohtang Pass and Patlesu. 

The region can enjoy skiing in December, January and February, while snow-capped hills are good for trekking. Basic equipment used in skiing can be hired by the local sky operator and also have an instructor for trekking. For this, tourists can also be a part of a 3 to 5 day tour which is organized here from time to time.

8. Explore Food

Famous Food in Manali

Siddoo is the most liked dish in Mandi, Kullu, Manali, and Shimla. It is a kind of bread made of wheat flour. A mixture of wheat and yeast is used to make it. After kneading the wheat with yeast, the dough is left for at least 4 to 5 hours. Generally, it is served with desi ghee dal and chutney.

Some Important Instructions

  1. It is forbidden to carry items made of leather in most of the temples here.
  2. Do not take the Beas river water lightly, the water of this river flows at a rapid speed. It is fine if you do not go near the river.
  3. While returning the rented clothes, please check the pockets.
  4. Book a return ticket a day in advance, due to overcrowding at times, tickets are not available.
  5. Please bring CDs and videos of detailed information about Manali.
  6. Do not carry the guide with you on the go, definitely check their identity card.
  7. Take the facilities of Himachal Tourism Information Center and private travel companies, all the offices are definitely located in the main market of Manali.

  1. From here, you can make Kullu shawl, cap and grass-made Pula, which is a beautiful design sandal. Apart from this, definitely carry beautiful design socks made of wool. These are suitable items given for gifts.
  2. Must carry Shakori (dry apple) local almond, apple jam, palam jam, walnut items, black cumin etc.
